Una vez escuché a alguien sabio decir que una buena formación o un aprendizaje te llenan la mochila de la vida a través del saber; saber hacer y querer hacer.
De acuerdo a La Real Academia española el conocimiento es entendimiento, inteligencia y razón natural; mientras que el aprendizaje es la adquisición a través de la práctica de una conducta duradera.
De acuerdo a la Psicología Positiva El amor al conocimiento y al aprendizaje es:
Una fortaleza de vida, dentro de la Virtud de Sabiduría, que significa obtener con entusiasmo nuevas habilidades y lograr dominar nuevos temas o áreas de conocimiento; además de una inclinación permanente a adquirir nuevos aprendizajes.
Las personas con esta fortaleza de carácter disfrutan de un compromiso cognitivo (pensamiento, atención, concentración, memoria), de dominar nuevas habilidades, materias y conocimientos, incluso cuando los beneficios materiales del aprendizaje pueden no estar disponibles de inmediato.
Quienes aman el saber son cognitivamente muy activos y frecuentemente experimentan sentimientos positivos en el proceso de lograr nuevas habilidades y satisfacer su curiosidad, porque quien ama el conocimiento es generalmente alguien curioso.
A estas personas les gusta leer y estudiar, consideran que en cualquier lugar hay oportunidades para aprender.
El amor por el aprendizaje es muy valioso, porque nos da libertad de aprender cosas nuevas constantemente, sin que eso constituya una obligación, carga o imposición.
Más bien es un instrumento de disfrute y motivación de vida. Puede darse por el aprendizaje formal (estudio académico) o por cuenta propia (autodidacta).
¿Qué hay detrás del trabajo y esfuerzo de aprender y lograr conocimiento?
Un profundo deseo de alcanzar crecimiento y desarrollo personal, de sentirse valorado, competente, capaz, de servir a otros, de trascender. Educarse e instruirse es amarse.
Quienes practican esta fortaleza son personas que poseen las siguientes características:
- Se sienten muy bien cuando están sumando conocimiento y disfrutan más el hecho de aprender que de los posibles beneficios o logros futuros por ese aprendizaje.
- Tienen pasión por conocer, por saber acerca de lo que les rodea y por aprender acerca de si mismos (autoconocimiento) y sobre los demás, apoyándose en un acto de voluntad para aprender y crecer. No en vano Galileo Galilei decía que “Conocerse a sí mismo es el mayor saber”.
- Seguros de su capacidad de aprender, disfrutan mucho el proceso de aprendizaje y buscan aprender por pura diversión.
- Vivencian emociones positivas al aprender cosas nuevas.
- Creen en sí mismos y en sus posibilidades.
- Tienen la capacidad de auto-regular sus esfuerzos para perseverar, a pesar de los retos y las posibles frustraciones.
- Se realizan constantemente y suelen crecer como personas.
- Sienten el apoyo de otros en sus esfuerzos por adquirir conocimiento.
- Desarrollan una mayor salud mental y física a lo largo del tiempo, y previenen deterioros cognitivos en la tercera edad, porque constantemente están haciendo conexiones neuronales nuevas.
- Son valorados por su experiencia, en su círculo social o profesional.
- Vivencian constantemente un estado de “experiencia óptima”, flow o flujo; es decir, cuando se comprometen con el proceso de aprendizaje son totalmente absorbidos por la experiencia en sí, perdiendo la noción del tiempo y rindiendo al máximo de sus capacidades, disfrutando plenamente de la experiencia consciente de aprendizaje.
Esta fortaleza de vida puede comenzar a alimentarse desde la infancia por un modelo parental que le gustaba mucho estudiar, leer, visitar museos o centros de arte, leer periódicos o ver documentales o adquirir constantemente oficios.
Aparte de la profesión, que también se reunía en familia para disertar acerca de temas intelectuales, de política, ciencia o interés mundial.
La buena noticia es que si este no fue tu caso, todas las fortalezas de vida son potenciables, se pueden desarrollar, y a continuación te daré algunos ejemplos de cómo lograrlo:
